Where to buy sourdough bread in Alicante and how to choose
A good purchase starts with knowing what bread you need and how each bakery works. Shops, collection points and preorders: a guide to your next Alicante loaf.

Start with how you want to shop: walk into a store, preorder for a particular day or collect from a partner shop. The Alicante artisan bakery ranking includes all three. Businesses do not all operate alike or offer the same selection every morning.
Better Pan and San Román are two options for exploring sourdough. Cocopan accepts orders for Alicante collection while baking in Sant Joan. Entre A-Migas prepares orders without a walk-in shop. Before setting out, check that the product and shopping arrangement suit your plans.
What to ask about sourdough
Ask which particular bread uses sourdough starter, which flours it contains and how it is fermented. A bakery may use different methods for different products; one sourdough loaf does not describe the entire counter. Dark colour, a thick crust or the word “rustic” do not explain the recipe on their own.
If you are curious, ask the baker to explain the differences between two loaves. Start with a small piece and compare aroma, texture and how it works for toast or sandwiches. Choose for the way you will eat it rather than the loaf’s appearance alone.
Choose flour and size for your routine
Explain whether you want toast, bread with meals or sandwiches. Ask about the proportions of the grains and what “wholemeal” means for that loaf. Seeds on the outside do not tell you everything about the dough; check the ingredients of the actual product.
Size matters too. A large loaf can work for one or two people if you can portion it. Ask whether bread is sold by weight, whether part of a loaf is available and what the selected piece will cost. Comparing prices per kilogram helps when loaves differ in size.
Preorders, baking days and collection
With made-to-order bakeries, the ordering date determines when you can buy. Cocopan publishes collection days and preorder deadlines; Entre A-Migas organises weekly batches. Check that week’s schedule, particularly around public holidays.
Keep confirmation of the product, quantity, total and collection point. A partner shop is not necessarily the bakery and may handle collections only during certain hours. For delivery, confirm your address, the fee and any minimum order. Do not travel to an approximate location without arranging collection first.
Plan what you will use at home
On collection, ask the baker how to store that variety and when to slice it. Decide what you will eat soon and what you need for another day. If freezing some of it, portion it so you do not need to defrost the whole loaf each time.
Do not assume a fixed shelf life: size, recipe and conditions at home affect the result. Buy an amount you can use and note which format suits you. Dry bread can become toast or croutons; discard bread if mould appears.
Five useful questions before ordering
- Which sourdough varieties are in the next batch?
- What flours and ingredients does this loaf contain?
- What is its approximate weight and total price?
- Do I need to preorder, and where exactly do I collect it?
- Can you slice it, and how do you recommend storing it?
For breakfast out, complete your route with Alicante’s specialty coffee spots. For bread to take home, read the chosen bakery’s profile and contact it through its official channels.
